# Fantasy Genes and Chimeras # Chimeras: Like Two Horses in One (working title) What is a chimera? Why do they happen? How to get them in the game. Herd helpers that create chimera horses. The chance of randomly creating a chimera on the create a horse page? How to breed for them, the chances of a chimera and non-chimera throwing another chimera. The chance of two chimeras throwing another chimera. The differences to remember when adding genes to a chimera in the GMT lab vs. the RGS. Merging two horses to create a chimera in the GMT lab. Mention brindle! We still have Brindle Breakout herd helpers. (Difference between DFP horses called brindle and actual chimeras? Give a mention to the old type of chimera vs. the new? Mention the brindle breeder club.) # Rare, Limited, and Closed Genes ### General information about Rare/Limited Edition/Closed genes - - - New genes can only be added to Foundation horses. - Foundation horses have parents that are imaginary. There are no pictures or statistics for those parent horses. They don't exist in the game as real horses, and are only used to create a basic 'starter' horse. - Since the parents of Foundation horses exist as endless possibilites they COULD have any gene available in the game. Therefore you can add any gene availble to their Foundation offspring....for a cost. - You can only add genes to lined horses if the horses parents carry those genes. You cannot add appaloosa genes to a horse if their parents do not carry the appaloosa gene(s). - Lined horses have parents in the game which have pictures and set statistics that can be seen if you go to the 'Family' tab from your horses individual page - Adding genes that a foal 'missed' from their parents, in most cases, costs much less money than adding genes to a Foundation horse. - Real world gene status - Documented genes are genes that have been tested and their actions are generally understood in real world - On Hunt And Jump these genes follow the actions, qualities and transmission of real life genes as closely as possible - Hypothetical genes are genes for which real world science has strong evidence, but have not been absolutely proven or understood. - On Hunt And Jump the action, qualities and transmission of these genes have been designed based on the best evidence available in the real world - Fantasy genes are genes that have never been observed or reliably documented in the real world - On Hunt And Jump Fantasy genes can be transmitted to foals using processes similar to real genetic inheritance ### Rare Genes Click the links for descriptions of each gene. - - - Rare genes can be created with normal creates and/or rank special herd helper creates but don't come up very often. Some may be available through the "Random Gene Sales" each month. - Rare Documented Genes - [Pearl](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=56) (Available in the GMT lab) - Pearl is only occasionally available on the create a horse page, it comes on a few rank special herd helpers, and may be available through the "Random Gene Sales" each month. - [Sabino 1](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the GMT lab and on some rank special herd helpers.) - Snowflake - Snowflake is occasionally available on the create a horse page, it comes on a few rank special herd helpers, and may be available through the "Random Gene Sales" each month. - Dense Pheomelanin (Available in the GMT lab) - Dense Pheomelanin (DP) Basically darkens pigment. A chestnut horse with DP/DP can be a liver chestnut, bays will get darker, etc. Dense Pheomelanin is occasionally available on the create a horse page, it is available in the Gene Modification lab, it comes on a few rank special herd helpers, and may be available through the "Random Gene Sales" each month. - Rare Hypothetical Genes - [White 1](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the Genetics lab and on some rank special herd helpers.) - AKA White w - [White 2](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the Genetics lab and on some rank special herd helpers.) - Rare Fantasy Genes - Currently there are no rare fantasy genes ### Limited Genes - Click the link for a description of the gene - - - A limited gene cannot normally be created on the "create a horse" page. It is even more elusive than a rare gene and can usually only be obtained via the Genetics lab or purchased with real money. You do not need to own a license, or a foundation horse that carries these genes to own the gene, and there are no restrictions on who can breed, buy or sell horses with these genes. - Limited Hypothetical Genes - [Satin](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=144) (Available in the GMT Lab, and through some Random Gene Sales) - [Gulastra Plume](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=146) (Available in the GMT Lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - [White M](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the GMT Lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - Originally called White 4, White M is based on Manchado horse coloration. - [Sabino 2](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the GMT Lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - [White 3](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Available in the GMT Lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - [White 8](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Can only be found in the GMT lab on rare occasions and through some Random Gene Sales.) - [White 10](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=71) (Only occasionally found in the GMT lab and available through some Random Gene Sales.) - Limited Fantasy Genes (See fantasy genes article ) - [Kit Promoter](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=117) (Available in the GMT Lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - [Ice 1](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) (Available for purchase on special occasions and through some Random Gene Sales) - [Ice 5](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) (Available for purchase on special occasions and through some Random Gene Sales) - [Ice 8](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) (Available for purchase in the GMT lab and through some Random Gene Sales) - [Nexus](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=130) (Available for purchase through some Random Gene Sales)) - Limited Documented Genes - [PAX3C70Y](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=74) (Available in the GMT lab.) - AKA Splash 2. - [Splash 3](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=77) (Rarely available in the GMT lab.) - ### Closed Genes - Click the link for a description of the gene - 1 When you buy a closed gene you are granted a license to own that gene. You may only sell, breed or buy intact horses to and from players with the same license. A license for one gene does not include access to similar, but different genes. - 2 Closed genes are only available to buy on special occasions. They can only be purchased with real money. - 3 Closed Documented Genes - [Splash M](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=77) - AKA **Macchiato** - Macchiato in real life: Macchiato occurred as a random mutation in a Freiberger stallion (now gelded) named Apache du Peupe. It was discovered the mutation was located on MITF which is also responsible for the more common splash white mutations. The official name is MITFN310S. In real life the gene causes large lacy splash markings, hazy roaning, blue eyes, and cream like body dilution. It also suspected to cause infertility. Apache du Peupe was gelded due to low sperm mobility. - 4 Closed Hypothetical Genes - **Mushroom** - Mushroom is a real homozygous recessive gene, found in the Shetland breed. The exact location is not known but they know roughly where it is located and there is now a test for the gene. The Mushroom gene appears to act only on red pigment and desaturates the color leaving a sepia hue to the coat. Manes and tails range from slightly diluted to near pure white. For a long time there was speculation if the gene was even real. The color is not quite cream, not quite dun, not quite silver. You must have two copies and visible "red" pigment for mushroom to show. (Available through some Random Gene Sales) - 5 Closed Fantasy Genes - [Ice 9](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) - [Ice 10](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) - [Ice 13](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) - Ice 13 adds large snowflake-like ice crystals to the horses coat - [Axiom Red](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=130) - [Axiom Blue](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=130) - [Axiom Green](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=130) - [Ice 14](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) - Adds a golden light to the head and a blue light to the tail of all base colors. It does not go over white markings but will change the color of all white horses like cremellos. Ice 14 is dominate. - **Plaid** - The plaid gene burns out stripes through a horses' natural pigment layers. It also adds stripes of a random rainbow color to the horse. There is a lot of random variation and re rolling can result in minimal color or very large amounts of color. Only one copy needed to show. (Available for purchase on special occasions and through Random Gene Sales) - **Thunderstruck** - All thunderstruck horses are covered in electric blue lightning bolts and have a charged glow. Thunderstruck's glow and bolts are so powerful it ignores interactions will all other genes. All mane and tail options will also glow regardless of what tack pack they are from. It only needs one copy to show and horses with it will have "Thunderstruck" as part of their color name. (Available for purchase on special occasions and through Random Gene Sales) - [Ice 2](http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=127) - (Available for purchase on special occasions and through Random Gene Sales) - **Wrong Warp** - Wrong warp is an allele in the nexus gene family (nexus and axiom). It acts by converting large white areas to black or rarely cyan and creating torn edges when heterozygous and has an additional warp over the hip effect when homozygous. One copy of Wrong Warp can be paired with one copy of nexus or with one copy of axiom for some interesting results. It is testable and will be searchable. (Available through some Random Gene Sales) Where does the name come from? Wrong Warp is a term used in many video game speed running tactics but was originally from Super Mario Brothers - **Chinchilla** - Chinchilla is a closed fantasy gene based on the real life chinchilla gene found in rabbits. Chinchilla is a mutation that completely disables the production of red pigment and leaves black pigment to show. In areas where both red pigment and black pigment are disabled this also results in red eyes. (Simplified to ee horses and E horses with agouti in game). It requires two copies to show. It is an all new gene in the game. It does not share a location with any other gene and will be searchable, testable, and show in the color name.(Available through some Random Gene Sales) - **Mushroom** - Mushroom is a real homozygous recessive gene, found in the Shetland breed. (Available through some Random Gene Sales) - **Nacre** - Nacre is based on the iridescent glow of mother of pearl. This gene is dominate and only requires 1 copy to show. (Available through some Random Gene Sales) - **Watercolor** - Watercolor converts the normal red and black pigment layers into rainbow color layers. The more pigment variation to start the more colors you will see. Agouti based colors, duns etc will give you the best results as you see the most pigment variation on those. Sooty + highly recommended with these. Only one copy needed to show. All Axiom genes are available for purchase via the Random Gene Sale. Horses with only one copy of an axiom gene will not have any changes to their name (i.e. a chestnut which is heterozygous for any axiom gene will still be called chestnut), but horses which are homozygous for axiom genes will display "ERROR: UNKNOWN ANOMALY" as their color name. ##### Interaction with Gray As axiom horses with gray age, the gray will eventually take over the axiom coloring. ## Nexus Nexus splashes a horse with bright stars in its heterozygous form and produces an extremely dramatic effect when homozygous. Nexus is a limited gene and can usually only be purchased with real money via the Random Gene Sale. The price is $\_\_ for one copy. There are no restrictions on who can breed, buy, or sell horses with nexus. These horses cannot be placed for public sale but can be sold via auction and buddy chat. This is a small selection of horses with Nexus, use the search to find many more examples!

The darker the horse's base coat color is, the lighter the homozygous Nexus effect is. Notice how the white areas typically turn black on homozygous horses.

One copy of red, green, or blue along with one copy of nexus will all appear visually the same as a heterozygous nexus horse. [![Het NX and Het RGB.png](https://wiki.huntandjump.com/uploads/images/gallery/2022-09/scaled-1680-/het-nx-and-het-rgb.png)](https://wiki.huntandjump.com/uploads/images/gallery/2022-09/het-nx-and-het-rgb.png) Axiom red, green, and blue can also be mixed to create yellow, cyan, and magenta axiom. Like nexus, the lighter your base color the darker the axiom effect is. The darker the base color the lighter the axiom effect is. The amount of color (red/green/blue etc.) is random, as is the location and placement of the stars. Each color of axiom can also have haloing of a complimentary color. For example, cyan with burgundy halo, or green with purple halo. Halo is a side effect of interacting with the base color. Dark bases like black, bay, etc. will have lighter and more vivid halo. Light bases like cremello will have no halo. ### Axiom Red Axiom Red is available to purchase via the Random Gene Sale. The price is $\_\_ for one copy, and it only needs one copy to show. This gene is closed. You will receive a breeder's license for this gene when you purchase it, and you may not share this gene with unlicensed players. It acts by converting large white areas to black or rarely cyan, and creating torn edges when heterozygous. Homozygous wrong warp horses will display a neat warp effect over the hip. One copy of wrong warp can be paired with one copy of any other axiom allele for some interesting results. Where does the name come from? Wrong Warp is a term used in many video game speed-running tactics but was originally from Super Mario Brothers. Wrong Warp is typically only available to purchase via the Random Gene Sale. The price is $\_\_ for one copy, and it only needs one copy to show. This gene is closed. You will receive a breeder's license for this gene when you purchase it, and you may not share this gene with unlicensed players. These are only a few examples of the expressions that can occur. Remember to use the search to see more examples! #### Heterozygous Wrong Warp

Heterozygous wrong warp will only react when white is present. On these two solid-color horses no change is seen. Note: the Silver Classic Champagne is equipped with the Pet Cat from the Halloween Tack Pack.
